Summer 2000

In Memory of Jim Martin

We were saddened to hear of the sudden death of Jim Martin, M.D., ‘92 SFFPR graduate, on April 3rd in Schuyler, Nebraska where he had practiced since completing his residency. Our sympathy goes to his wife, Jill, and her young children.

Some Changes in the Class of 2003

Since the Spring Newsletter in which we reported on the Match, there have been some changes. The bad news is that Kimberlee Understock Tams, M.D. will not be joining the Program as previously planned. She has decided to enter a Pathology Residency. The good news, however, is that THAI TRINH, M.D. will be joining the first year class in June. Dr. Trinh is a 1994 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Columbia, South Carolina. He is currently working in a family practice/urgent care center evaluating patients and devising treatment plans very much like a resident in a training program. Dr. Trinh also has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. We look forward to working with Dr. Trinh and meeting his wife, Van Nguyen.

Additional Faculty to Join Residency This Summer

After many months of advertising in several national publications, we are pleased to announce that two excellent faculty physicians have signed contracts and will be joining the Residency this summer. JIM P. WALERY, M.D., ‘95 graduate of the residency will be joining us in July. Jim has been practicing in Tyndall, South Dakota since completing his residency. He and his wife, Nancy, are looking for a house in Sioux Falls and will be moving their family here soon. We are looking forward to working with Jim once again, although in a different capacity.

JIM R. WILDE, M.D. and wife, Nancy (yes, both new faculty are Jims with wives named Nancy!!) will be moving their young family to Sioux Falls in July also. They have already purchased a house. Dr. Wilde is currently practicing in a small town in Kentucky and, before that, practiced in Nome, Alaska. He received his M.D. in 1988 from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and went on to complete a Family Practice Residency in the University of Wyoming Program. We are excited at the prospect of working with these two new faculty physicians.
