Education Made Us What We Are – Helveticus 1758

Education is something the Academy - both the American Academy and the South Dakota Academy – is good at.

I attended the AAFP Scientific Assembly for this first time this past fall. The variety and scope of available CME was astounding. This ranged from free one-hour lectures to "extra fee" three-hour hands-on workshops. Speakers are top-notch experts in the field – no disappointments there. Scheduling times can be flexible, too, with multiple offerings of a course. And if one cannot attend a session, the handouts are available after the session. Also, plenty of time is open for family time and specific events are scheduled for family entertainment.

That leads to more local offerings. Again, the Black Hills Winter Ski Seminar will be held in Spearfish, February 3-5. This year’s scheduled topics and speakers look very promising, with a little different flavor. In contrast to the winter skiing, the family event (the President’s Party) may also prove to be revealing with a beach party theme. Bring the whole family – and your bathing suit, beach balls, sunglasses and other summer fun attire. Hope to see you all there for the cookout.

Education can be fun too!

All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education. (Letter to J.G. Lockhart from Sir Walter Scott)
