Spring 2001

President's Report

If you are all wondering why this newsletter is late, blame me. I admit that this piece was indeed the last piece of material to be added. You will find much more newsworthy information in other parts of this publication than my words, but I will share them with you all anyway. Please take the time to peruse all of the newsletter: Dan Reiffenberger has done a great job with the editing. He is hoping to take his talents to the next level as we update the SDAFP web site in the months ahead.
Spring is late here, as always. It just seems later than usual this year
for some reason. I am itching to golf and there is still plenty of snow in Sioux Falls. I hear from at least every other patient now as to how this weather has prevented them from doing something more productive. I am a definite believer in Seasonal Affective Disorder now, sadly to say.
I hope your time during the last few months has been productive. We received many positive replies regarding the SDAFP winter meeting in Spearfish earlier this year. The SDAFP board is still considering all input as to when we should hold our now once-a-year meeting. One idea is to continue the winter meeting in the Black Hills and hold our annual business meeting during the SDSMA annual meeting weekend in early June. We are looking for any feedback from our members.
Please email Mary Stoddard at mary@sdafp.org or me at epagolf@aol.com with any thoughts you may have. SDAFP board members will be deciding this matter at the Annual Leadership Forum (ALF) later this month in Kansas City.In addition to board members attending, Dr's Valerie Hearns and Sarah Reiffenberger will be representing South Dakota. We thank them both for their efforts. We continue to look for family doctors throughout our state interested in volunteering (CME coordinator, board members, meeting planning).
Please keep SDAFP in mind this spring as you ponder how you can be more productive now that the weather is improving. Keep in touch. Stay healthy.

E. Paul Amundson, MD
President, SDAFP
