Sioux Falls Family Practice Residency Class of 2004

We are proud to annouce our class of 2004.  We welcome them all and look forward to working with them. Rosa E. Lundin, University of Nebraska. Rosa is married, her husband (Tim) is an electrical engineer with the US Air Force, retiring this summer.  They have three children.  Rosa was born in Cuba, but moved to the United States at an early age, and has lived in many places.  She, too, was an electrical engineer and met her husband while working for the US Government in Washington, DC.  Rosa received her BS in Zoology at Iowa State University as well as a BA in Chemistry.  Besides her family, Rosa’s interests lie in music (choral and piano) and family activities.

Jonathan M. McAreavey, University of South Dakota.  Jon is a newlywed, marrying his wife, Dot, on February 17, 2001.  She is a physical therapist at the VA Hospital.  Jon is from Crooks, SD and received his undergraduate education at Augustana, graduating with a BA in Biology in 1997.  Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and family, and we will be looking forward to his talents playing trombone in the CFM band!

Michelle L. McElroy ,University of South Dakota.  Michelle is married, and she and husband Jeff are recent new parents with the birth of Madeline on February 13.  Michelle is from Sioux Falls her undergraduate degree at USD with a BS in Chemistry in 1997.  Michelle is busy with the joys of parenthood, but in her spare time, attempts to solve the National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition Sunday Puzzle.  These skills will help her to complete patient insurance forms.  Michelle also has some musical talent as she was a member of the USD Marching and Varsity bands.

Jennifer Nelson, University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Sciences. Jennifer is a native South Dakotan, born in Winner where her family still resides.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Dakota Wesleyan University  and graduated with a BA in Biology on 1996 and then completed a  Master of Natural Sciences degree in 1997 at USD.  She enjoys spending time playing tennis, reading, singing, computer but most of all, spending time with her family and friends, and activities of her nieces and nephews.

Maria Palmquist, University of South Dakota.  Maria is married, and she and her husband, Joe,  have two children.  They live near Winfred, SD where her husband farms.  Maria received her undergraduate education at Creighton University where she graduated in 1996 with a BA in Speech Communication and co-major in Biology.  She worked part-time at a bank while pursuing her degree.  With two young children, Maria spends most of her free time with her family, but does enjoy scrapbooking and exercising.

Scott Sundby, University of Minnesota.  Scott is married, and his wife, Jennifer is from Luverne, MN.  Scott is originally from Detroit Lake, MN and he received his undergraduate education at the College of Saint Scholastica, receiving a BA in Clinical Laboratory Science in 1997. Scott did his first two years of medical school in Duluth, MN, then transferred to Minneapolis in his third year.  He also participated in the Rural Physician Associate Program and spent nine months in Hutchinson, MN.  Scott has many interests outside of medicine, and he says most of them revolve around the outdoors.  He and his wife enjoy camping, golfing, and snow skiing.

Matthew Viel, Loma Linda University. Matt is married and he and wife, Jen, are also new parents, with the birth of their son James on December 30, 2000.  Matt is originally from Michigan and still calls that "home".  He completed his undergraduate education at Calvin College in Michigan and received a BA in Philosophy and a BS in Biology in 1996. His interests include spending time with his family, reading, camping and hiking.  He also plays the baritone horn and this is good since the CFM band has never had a baritone!
