Spring 2001
Plans Well Underway for
Summer Seminar
![]()
Plans are well underway for our 2001 Summer Seminar and Annual Meeting, which will be held July 26-28, at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. SDAFP will also celebrate our 50th anniversary during a special banquet on Friday evening.
Topics for the seminar include Evidence Based Medicine, Technology in Practice, and Ethics. Some of the speakers include Joseph Scherger, Bruce Bagley, John Mitterling, Rick McClaflin, Susan Rehm, and Gary Helmbrecht. Optional workshops will be held on Thursday and Friday at the Wegner Health Science Information Center.
Thursday night we will hold our annual All Member Party at the Sioux Falls Canaries Stadium. Unfortunately, the team is out of town that week, so we can’t go to a baseball game like we did in 1994, but we’ve got the stadium to ourselves! Bring your bats and gloves! We’re planning an east river vs. west river game! Anyone who wishes to play is welcome to. This will include physicians, family members, and drug reps!
Friday evening we will be holding an Adults Only banquet. Past Presidents and Family Doctors of the Year will be recognized. Awards will be presented, and new officers will be installed during the banquet. A supervised event will be planned for the children during this time to allow greater participation.
We are hoping to be able to line up some events for spouses and children during the mornings, when the physicians will be in the sessions. We are in discussions with the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Sciences, the Great Plains Zoo, and the Outdoor Campus but would welcome any other suggestions you may have.
There are many exciting things to do in Sioux Falls and we are really looking forward to having you all come to Sioux Falls! There has been major renovation at the Falls Park, with new viewing areas, walkways and picnic areas, as well as the nightly sound and light show.
There are several museums here that are very interesting. The Old Courthouse Museum will be featuring a special exhibit called, "The Tipi" during that time. They also have Friday noon entertainment and on the 27th it is scheduled to be Irishfest Traditional Irish music. You can buy lunch there or bring a sack lunch.
If you decide not to go to the Friday evening banquet, Catfish Bay Water Ski Park, just north of Sioux Falls, has a performance that night. This year’s show is entitled, "Clue – A Murder Mystery" but is actually a comedy/mystery done on the water!
Please make your plans now to attend the Summer Seminar and Annual Meeting, as we celebrate SDAFP’s 50th anniversary.
