These were only a few of the many positive comments about the 1999 Black Hills Summer Seminar, held in late July. Although the crowd was small, they were an enthusiastic bunch!
As registrants checked into the hotel on Wednesday evening, a Welcome Reception was held to give registrants a chance to greet old friends and acquaintances. Presentations began on Thursday morning and continued until Saturday morning with modules on Womens Health, Rheumatology, and Neurology. Optional workshop were held on both Thursday and Friday afternoons for those who desired more CME. Thursday evening many of us gathered for our second Exhibitors Social. On Friday evening, 138 of us made the trek to Crazy Horse Memorial for our annual All-Member Party. A buffet dinner was provided, and participants got a chance to tour the facilities, see the carving, and shop the shops! As we finished dinner, Ruth Ziolkowski, widow of the carver, Korczak Ziolkowski, came to greet us and show us a special photo album of some of the carvings most VIP guests.
We added a few new family activities this year, which went over really well. Were working on continuing them! We held craft classes for adults, and one for children, and the kids especially, loved it! During the annual Awards Luncheon on Friday, we also had babysitters and lunch for the kids, so parents could enjoy the Awards Luncheon.
Saturday morning, our annual early morning Fun Run/Walk was again a great success. T-shirts were provided to participants, as was a light breakfast.
1996-97 AAFP President, Dr. Pat Harr and his wife, Debra, of Maryville, MO were our guests. Dr. Terrance Cahill of Blue Earth, MN, and his wife, Maura, also came as our guests.
