Accreditation Site Visit Scheduled

October 19th is the date set for the next re-accreditation site visit for the SFFPR. The accreditation process is very extensive, and requires documentation in some detail of nearly every aspect of the program. Preparations have been underway for nearly a year. Resident experience for each aspect of the curriculum, the profile of the residents’ patients, the floor plan of the model office, and even the content of the resident contracts must meet prescribed standards.

The purpose of the site visit is to affirm the accuracy of documentation of each component of the program. Faculty, residents and representative volunteer faculty will be interviewed, and numerous documents must be ready for inspection. This will be the seventh time accreditation for the program has been sought. All previous efforts have been successful, and we are confident this one will be as well.

The actual accreditation is determined by the Residency Review Committee for Family Practice (RRC-FP), based upon submitted documentation and the report of the site visitor. Hopefully action will be taken on application at the January 2000 meeting of the RRC-FP. The most positive action would be 5 years of continued full accreditation, which has been the outcome each of the last several occasions. Think positively!
