Introducing the Residents

The residents we would like to introduce this time are Gregory Murphy, MD and Robert Clemens, MD. They are currently second year residents and will be beginning their third year of residency July 1st.

Dr. Clemens attended high school in Sioux Center, Iowa. After graduation, he went to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa where he played intercollegiate football and obtained a bachelor’s degree in History. He was elected as captain of his squad, and was named All Conference Linebacker during his junior year. He spent his summers managing a recreational area, and served as head swimming instructor for 500 young people. Rob obtained his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City and joined our residency program in 1997 as a first year resident. It has been a pleasure to work with Rob, and he has been chosen by his peers to be one of our two chief residents for next year. During his free time he enjoys pheasant hunting and spending time with his wife, Dawn (Radigan) Clemens, who is a Doctor of Pharmacology at Rapid City Regional Hospital. After graduation, in July 2000, Rob is hoping to join a practice in one of the rural communities in eastern South Dakota or western Iowa.

Dr. Murphy graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School and went on to Reed College in Portland, Oregon where he studied Biology and Music. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts and attended Tufts University School of Medicine. Greg then spent two years in Portsmouth, Virginia at the Naval Medical Center followed by two years of general medical practice on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Pine Ridge and Wamblee, SD. He also spent six months working at a nonprofit clinic in Las Varas, Nayarit, Mexico. Greg joined us as a second year resident, and has been a terrific asset to our program. He enjoys spending his free time as a musician, cooking, gardening, and working on his horse ranch. He is planning to practice in rural western South Dakota after finishing his residency in July 2000.
